PTP at PNC!
Wow, I got so busy I almost forgot to post this week’s PTP! This recap comes from PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates–a baseball franchise with a proud tradition of blowing stuff up, especially when they win. WD and I entered the madness.
What I might’ve said if I had filmed myself for more than 30 seconds:
1. I talked a lot this week.
2. Like a really lot.
3. My first academic conference presentation went very well. Phenomenal response as we managed to pull over a quarter of the conference attendees into our session for Pop Teacher. Professors were sitting on the floor along the walls because…
4. People really want to know the secret to communicating to the current generation.
5. Then I slept for a really long time, especially because…
6. I’m flying off to another conference on Tuesday. That one’s for writers.
Your top picks of the week are:
The always brilliant Chase McFadden is just showing off now. He’s all like, “Yeah, I can write. Guess what? I can talk real good too.” He totally rocked that speech.
Many of you may have yet to meet Terrell Mims (who I’m pretty sure I said his name wrong on the video). Well, here’s a nice introduction. The guy’s got some serious movie philosophy skills, so you know I’m a fan.
I like Albert Berg. He is one of the leaders of my zombie apocalypse team. He wrote a post this week called Why I don’t Use Profanity. So nice to see someone explain what they believe in a clear, logical, and appropriate way. Some of you will agree/understand. Some of you won’t. Ah, if only everyone could articulate what they believe so rationally.
I know I made some of you nervous a couple weeks back by linking to the comprehensive guide to using images on the web. I was nervous too and have some work to do to get it right, but the solution is simple if you use Creative Commons by Flickr and check out Attribution License. This post by Skelliewag makes it really simple.
Finally, here’s a fun post from Den of Geek about all the video games being turned into movies by Hollywood.
I hope you have a great week!

Like this post a lot… love to see good teachers like you, Clay, and Leanne out there doing things that engage/challenge not only students but other educators.
Thanks for that. I really appreciate it.
Thanks for the shout out. BTW, you got my name right. Score!
Sweet!
Baseball and fireworks: two tracks on the soundtrack of summer.
Chase’s speech = well, ya. The guy nails everything. (Okay, I typed that last sentence innocently. Really).
I’ll check out the other stuff.
And, because I’m rambling and haven’t said anything Canadian yet, here we go (and I’m stealing this):
1976: Montreal hosts the Olympics. 1977: Montreal wins the Stanley Cup.
1988: Calgary hosts the Olympics. 1989: Calgary wins the Stanley Cup.
2010: Vancouver hosts the Olympics. 2011: Vancouver (wins?) the Stanley Cup?
Sounds of winter, eh?
Oh you. Funny. But for the Canada-hockey Finals connection thing I am thankful. Wow! That’s pretty wild. I think the Canucks got it too.
Huh!! That game sounded and looked SO fun! The last Pirates game that Fionna went to was a bust. Bummer of a first baseball game for her. But here, the place was packed and people were actually cheering in this video!Yay!!!!Personally,I’m more of a volleyball, basketball, soccer gal. I need a little encouragement for baseball (rather play it and please don’t make me listen to it on the radio!)
I too am proud of you for creating a simple way for teachers to connect with their students. Glad it went so smashingly for you!!!! Safe travels this week too. 🙂
Wow. Those fireworks were cool as hell. Being at the ballpark is awesome.
Congrats on your conference domination. The gospel you’re spreading is a sound one. Glad people are taking notice.
And thanks for the PTP love. I was thinking of your pop culture affinity when I put together my list of “other” speakers. The kids really liked that part.
As a side, I showed my 7th graders the Chris Farley as Matt Foley skit the week before graduation because they were asking what I was going to do in my speech. I said I was going to go Matt Foley on the graduates. They didn’t know what I meant, so I showed them.
Thanks Chase. That speech was phenomenal. Matt Foley is great!
You spoke at an Academic conference! That’s awesome! You’re gonna take over the world. 🙂
Ha, I’ll settle for the hearts and minds of millions. Fair?
Glad your conference went well, Clay…you’re right…Chase’s speech was great!
Wendy
Thanks Wendy. I’m gonna become a conference bug methinks.
Congratulations on a successful conference! Hope your writing conference is just as productive. I enjoyed the video of the ball game. You’re inspiring me to get into the video bit for my blog. All the best.
P.S. Would you please consider running for president? Holmes and I would back you.
Do it! I like it anyway. Thanks for the wishes.
